Baby Shower Party Ideas: Planning
Maybe you’ve been asked to host a baby shower for a friend or family member or
you have volunteered to take on the task. Either way you need baby shower party
ideas to get you on the road to creating a fun experience for everyone. Here are
a few things you should consider before getting started.
Do you know the sex of the baby?
If so, there are lots of fun ideas for girls and boys. You may want to create a
shower themed around “It’s a Girl” or “It’s a Boy.” There are also themes like
butterflies or sports that would be more appropriate for a girl or boy baby. If
you do not know the sex of the baby, it is best to keep the theme more generic
and use neutral colors like greens and yellows. If mom and dad have a nursery
theme picked out, doing the baby shower with that theme can make it extra
special.
Do you know what mom can and cannot eat?
There are several “don’ts” concerning food during pregnancy. There are many
things that are simply not safe for mom to eat. Be sure that none of these are
on the menu for the baby shower. Many women also have food and smell aversions
during pregnancy. If she can’t stand the sight or smell of cheese now that she’s
pregnant, make sure you don’t serve it at the shower. Some women also get
gestational diabetes when they are pregnant, making sugary snacks out of the
question for her. You don’t have to eliminate them from the menu entirely but
make sure that you have plenty of options for mom.
Is it a girls only, couples, or work baby shower?
It is important to consider appropriateness during your planning. While some
baby shower party ideas would work for any occasion, some games and themes are
better reserved for a girls only baby shower. If you are hosting it at work, be
sure that anything you are planning follows company policies. If it is a couples
shower, look for game ideas that are not going to make the men uncomfortable.
You also need to be conscious of whether it is a multi-generational baby shower.
There are things that you may consider fine as a game that a member of an older
generation would not.
What time of day are you planning?
Many pregnant moms tire early and easily. Try to plan the baby shower around
when mom has the most energy. This will vary from woman to woman so be sure to
check with mom. Late evening hours are usually best avoided. Some women have
morning sickness throughout their entire pregnancy. Check to see if this is the
case and if so, plan the shower for when she feels the least nauseous. Keep in
mind that morning sickness does not always strike in the morning.
There are many different kinds of baby shower party ideas that can make the
experience a special one for mom (and dad). Planning appropriately can help make
sure that everyone has fun.
